That Jayce Tingler Guy
The 2021 MLB season is almost upon us, so naturally, we’re coming in hot with a new Padres-focused podcast (Oppo on 3-0).
We are excited to cover a team that is sure to provide can’t-miss moments all season long. The man leading the Friars is none other than Jayce Tingler.
While hindsight might tell us that Tingler was an obvious choice as manager because he was “AJ’s guy,” the reality is he was a serious dark horse at the time of his hiring. Yours truly laughed at the prospect of the Padres bringing in this relatively unknown baseball mind.
So in October of 2019, with the Padres soon to unveil their new uniforms, I joked that if they hire that Jayce Tingler guy, then his jersey would be the first I purchase and customize. You know as opposed to, say, a Hosmer, Machado, or Tatis Jr.
Well folks, here we are 18 months later. I’m a man of my word and I will be rocking the Tingler 32 at Padres games this year.
