Earlier this week the San Diego Padres announced that the organization had agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the team’s 21st Manager, Jayce Tingler. The team introduced him at a press conference on Thursday morning.

Tingle, Tingle, baby.

Based on the reports we have heard, the 38-year-old appears to be a well-rounded baseball mind who enjoys working closely with his players. Here is the Padres’ full piece on him: View full video

Just weeks ago Tingler was completely off the radar of the Padres fan base. So can everyone just be honest and admit that none of us knew this guy existed?

During Episode 12 of the BCSS Podcast a few weeks ago, we discussed what new Padres brown and gold jersey each of us would buy heading into the 2020 season. Brian and Thomas took Fernando Tatis Jr. and Chris Paddack, respectively, and for obvious reasons.

Having heard of Tingler’s name as a managerial candidate just hours prior, I joked that I would buy a Jayce Tingler jersey (I’m pretty sure I referred to him as Jayce “Tinkler”).

Well, now the dude is our leader, and I am on the hook to purchase that No. 32 jersey. Honestly, I am not mad about it.

First, the jersey itself will undoubtedly look spectacular. At the press conference, Tingler rocked the new Padres hat. It is a darker brown than some expected, but the consensus is that we all like it a lot (Note: The jersey Tingler wore at the press conference is not the new 2020 jersey. The new look will, of course, be unveiled on November 9th).

Second, Tingler is already growing on me. While the press conference was none too exciting, I think this guy has some substance. I believe the players will come to respect him.

Third, he has one of the best names in baseball and we need to have some fun with it.

I am going with Tingler all the way.
