The San Diego State Aztecs men’s basketball team announced that they will retire Kawhi Leonard’s jersey in a ceremony on Feb. 1 at Viejas Arena prior to their game against rival Utah State. Leonard will be the first Aztecs basketball player to have his jersey retired.

A two-time NBA Finals MVP, Leonard played for San Diego State for two seasons (2009-10, 2010-11). He averaged 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the Aztecs, leading SDSU to a 34-3 record and its first ever Sweet 16 appearance in 2011. San Diego State fell to the eventual national champion UConn Huskies in the round of 16. UConn was led by tournament MVP Kemba Walker.

Leonard is expected to be able to attend the evening ceremony in San Diego as the Clippers play a noon game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb 1.
