Philip Rivers will quarterback the Indianapolis Colts in 2020.

According to NFL Network National Insider Ian Rapoport, free agent starting quarterback Philip Rivers has agreed to a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts worth an estimated $25 million. Rivers, who has not missed a start in 14 seasons since taking over the Chargers starting quarterback job, will be reunited with former Chargers assistant coaches Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni.

A short-term marriage between Rivers, a 16-year NFL veteran, and the Colts, a team with a promising young core and a familiar coaching staff, has seemed a natural fit since early this offseason when the Chargers and Rivers announced a mutual decision to part ways.

Always a fan favorite in San Diego, where he spent the first 13 years of his NFL career, Rivers has been in a tough position as the quarterback of the NFL’s first attempt at a franchise without fans (Los Angeles Chargers 2017-Present). This deal offers Rivers an opportunity to play for a first-class organization with the type of fans he deserves to represent.

The Indianapolis Colts just gained an army of temporary supporters in San Diego.

During his very accomplished career, Rivers has been considered by many to be among the greatest quarterbacks to have never won a Super Bowl. Many consider him the best QB to never appear in the big game. With Tom Brady out in New England, now is as good a chance as Rivers, a 38-year old quarterback signing with a new franchise, could hope for to hoist the coveted Lombardi Trophy.

In the clouded world of NFL Free Agency, one thing is crystal clear… the Indianapolis Colts just gained an army of temporary supporters in San Diego.
