The New Orleans Pelicans will open their 2019-20 NBA campaign on the road in Toronto on Tuesday night against the defending NBA champion Raptors. This game has been circled on the calendar since New Orleans selected Duke’s Zion Williamson with the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft.

The 6’7”, 285-pound Williamson will have to wait to make his NBA debut. It was reported on Monday afternoon that the preseason favorite for NBA Rookie of the Year underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn right lateral meniscus. Williamson is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

This is a tough blow for a squad that many viewed as a potential playoff contender in an open Western Conference. Williamson will be a key piece to any chances the Pelicans have to make a run this season and in the coming years. We will have updates as soon as they become available.
